Basics of SEO

If you are already running an Internet marketing campaign or are looking into expanding your marketing online, one traffic source you cannot afford to overlook or ignore on is search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is one of the most popular buzz words in Internet marketing but is not simple and is often too confusing for most business owners who are not SEO experts, to grasp and implement profitably. Even those who are knowledgeable about SEO may have difficulty executing their SEO strategies to produce the desired affect in many cases

So here is a little background on SEO

Well known search engines such as Google rank websites according to complex algorithms which are designed to determine which websites are most relevant for particular search terms. Google truly wants  and tries to give their customers (searchers) what they want.  In order to take advantage and get ranked, you need to structure your site and content with as much optimization as possible. This is important because most Internet users rely heavily on these rankings. It is not uncommon for Internet users to only review the first few results when they search for a particular term. So if your website ranks high enough to appear on the first page of the search results you will likely enjoy increased website traffic. However, if your website doesn’t make it to the first page or even the second page, it is unlikely you will receive a great deal of website traffic from visitors who use search engines.

Now that you understand why search engine rankings are so important you might wonder how to achieve these rankings.  Because of the complexity of SEO, and it being an expertise of its own, the easiest way to optimize your website is to hire a SEO specialist to do the work for you.

The algorithms used by search engines can be rather complex and include a number of different factors. Some of the common factors in the equation include:

  • Keyword density
  • META tags
  • Titles
  • Inbound links
  • Website traffic and content
  • Video, and more

Keyword density refers to the number of times a particular keyword is used in the content of your website. The theory behind this concept is that website which use a keyword often are likely extremely relevant to that keyword, however, overuse of that keyword may result in penalties to the website if the search engine deemed the keywords are not being used appropriately.

 META tags are pieces of HTML code which some search engines use in evaluating the content of a website. Placing keywords in these tags can be beneficial in some search engines. However, care should be taken to avoid placing irrelevant keywords in these tags as this may result in your website being penalized.

Inbound links are also used by some search engines to rank websites. Inbound links refer to links on other websites which point to your website. In evaluating the worth of these inbound links, some search engines consider the rank of the website providing the link to your website. This means you should ensure the website providing inbound links to your website are high ranking websites to receive the most benefit from these links.

Finally, the content on your website can do a great deal to increase your search engine rankings. Most SEO firms retain a staff of writers who are skilled at providing quality content which is also optimized for relevant keywords. If you hire a SEO firm who does not providing copy-writing services you should invest in hiring a professional writer yourself. This will help to ensure the copy on your website is not only valuable to your visitors but also considered valuable to search engines.


With all of this said, SEO is not for everyone, especially if you are just starting out.  It is important for you to understand the basics and to optimize your site the best that you can as you add content.  However,  in many cases, paid search or PPC is much more effective starting out and for figuring out what keywords are important to rank for.

NEVER EVER attempt SEO paid or on your own, until you have first ran PPC campaigns to know what keywords will make you money!  You might spend hundreds or thousands of dollars and months of time trying to get to #1 for a keyword you think is important, only to find out that no one clicks on it, or if they do, they are not in the buying mindset.  Or maybe your site does not convert.  It is much wiser to risk a couple hours of ad words setup and a few hundred dollars to find this out, then months and thousands of dollars.  So  ALWAYS, run PPC and know what keywords make you money before trying to rank for them!


Increasing Traffic and Leads Through Blogging

I have written a couple articles about how a blog can be your first website or web presences in order to help you get a quick jump start with your business.  I also want to discuss how blogging on a consistent basis help you build targeted traffic for your business or lead site and help you grow your business and build relationships with prospects and current customers.

Ok, so more on how to actually blog! 

As you probably know or have “heard” blogs are  proven to be very effective  for building a network marketing business or any business for that matter. The key to generating mlm blog traffic is to post useful, targeted, and engaging content frequently by submitting your blog to directories, search engines and social bookmarking sites. So lets discusses how to generate ongoing mlm blog traffic.


Blogs are excellent for online network marketing.. In network marketing, the key to success is to build and maintain relationships with people who you can help.. The informal nature of blogs makes them easy to read and so the response is also more than what is generated by a normal website. It also takes the pressure off of you to be a Pulitzer Prize winning author!  All you need to do is speak/write about  topics of interest to you and your target audience.

Blogs are easy to produce and their heavy content makes them perfect for getting business. Also, adding new content to a blog is very easy. Network marketers need to communicate with customers and prospects on a regular basis and reviewing and adding new material to a website in the traditional sense is often difficult and time-consuming.

Blogging remedies this issue and has appeal to many people due to their simplicity and dynamic nature. Building relationships with prospects and customers and informing them about tools, solutions and products can be done easily through postings on a blog. It is a great way to educate and motivate existing team members.

The subject of your MLM blog can be anything that will benefit and educate network marketers and business opportunity seekers. Your blog can also be targeted to get new customers  or prospects by talking about important issues they may have, and then providing a solution.

Blogs work two ways, because of the fresh, desired content, over time your search rankings will increase bringing more traffic. The second way, is that when people do reach your site or blog, they will get to know “you” and they will see you as an expert and contributor to helping them solve their problems.

There are may ways to tun your blog, so mix it up. If you do not want to post articles or run out of business or product related content,  you can  post about personal likes, hobbies, etc, and even talk about your own unique experiences of the product or program that you are promoting, on an ongoing basis. You could also write your own unique review of the program, mentioning both the major benefits and features of the program, and any slight faults inherent in the program for added credibility readers will appreciate your honesty as most so-called reviews are nothing more than hyped-up sales pitches. This will give your blog more credibility, which is an excellent way to increase mlm blog traffic.

There are literally a ton of options!

You can even have guest writers or hire ghost writers if you need even more content, or your readers are interested in content you do not have an expertise.  Remember, every piece of content you post, is helping you in search engines, build credibility, and build relationships.  One last note, to get the best results for search rankings and traffic, have a purpose for your blog.  Plan out your posts and articles.  Be sure to use keywords in them that people you want to attract will be searching on.  Also, post your content to other social media sites and link back to your blog.

If your blog is on a separate site from your main site, be sure to point to your main lead generation or product site, from your blog posts.

Getting Your Site Ranked in Google Places

If you do not already know, Google Places (formally Google Maps), is the google placeslistings in Google that pop up with the little red map marker or balloon, when you search for a local business.  If you service local customers, you NEED to be listed.  It is like free traffic and leads that you are throwing away if you are not listed.  It is pretty simple to get listed, but if you have a lot of competition you may want to hire a professional Google Places marketer to optimize and keep your listing fresh and in the top four.  But for now, how do you get listed?

Step One:

Go to and choose to add your listing.  Then simply step through their form following these tips.

Your business or company name. Make sure your company / organization’s name is listed exactly as it appears in the offline world. Do not include additional keywords such as the city because this violates the guidelines. You DO NOT want to violate the guidelines. Play by the rules!

Step Two:

Add your phone number. Make sure it is the phone number you want potential clients/ customers to reach you at.  Add any toll free and fax numbers you have as well. The more contact information – the easier you can be reached.

Step 3:

Your email address. Do not use your personal email address, use a business email address.  If you do not really have one, get a free gmail account.

Step 4:

Add your website. Include http:// as well when you add your website.

Step 5:

Categories. Include all the categories that are relevant to your business. Do not be deceptive and add your most desired ones first.  Some people recommend only adding 4 to start and then going back later, as there is an approval process.  Don’t keyword stuff!

Step 6:

Hours of Operation. This is obvious, put your hours of operation. If you are not open to the public, choose that option.  Google sometimes changes the form, and sometimes it looks different from person to person if they are beta testing new ideas, so if something differs from this checklist, simply follow Google’s lead.

Step 7:

Payment methods. Do you accept Mastercard, but not American Express? That’s something you may want people to know before they come to your business. Also, the more payment methods you accept, the more professional and the more flexibility your customers have.

Step 8:

There is a section that allows you to display additional information about your business. If you have something unique that will make a customer select you or might interest them, put it in there.

Step 9:

Photos. This is important, put a couple in, but it is not critical to add a bunch or even a video right at the start.  Actually, many professionals say to just put the basics in, get approved, get your pin code, and then go back and add more once you are listed.  This actually can help you get listed higher over time as it shows an active listing.

Step 10:

Reviews.  These are important.  Once your google listing is up, email some customers and ask them to review you.  Give them your link.  Ask them for an honest  review.  If you have a large customer database, only ask a few at a time.  You want reviews over time, not 50 at once.  It needs to look natural.  A couple reviews a week to start is fine.

That’s all there is to it – go get listed!



What is Relationship Marketing?

Simply put, relationship marketing puts the word custom back in customer.   It seems pretty simple , right? It seems to be a no brainer, but relationship marketing relatively rare in  business and marketing circles.  The focus now is on attracting customers rather than keeping them – a term referred to as offensive marketing.  It is absolutely crazy that businesses no longer have a focus of keeping existing customers, or even a balance between generating new customers and keeping current ones. Relationship marketing will make all the difference in the world, not to mention it can save you and your business money.

Relationship marketing evolved from direct response marketing in the 1960’s, emerging in the 80’s to become a system that places emphasis on building longer term relationships with  customers rather than simply a single transaction.  This marketing philosophy means that you understand the customer’s needs as they change and go through their buying life cycle.  Put another way, offering a range of products/services, as your customers need change and they actually need those products or services.

Why is focusing on your existing customers be more profitable?  Many reasons. If you’re constantly spending money and resources to land new clients, you aren’t paying attention to your loyal customers – the ones who are keeping you in business now.  This means you are losing out on their business, and the referrals they can send your way.

This is called churn and burn, or the customers who won’t come back to you if you alienate them.  Another term for trying to keep customers and increase their loyalty is called defensive marketing. Customers who have already bought something from you are your bread and butter, your key to continued profitability. Bottom line?  You NEED them and can’t afford to lose them.  They are your assets.  And you value assets and treat them accordingly. Customer loyalty is worth A LOT of  money to your business, since the cost of keeping an existing customer is only about 10 per cent of the cost of getting a new one.

The key here is to pay attention to your current customers, use greeting cards, post cards, Facebook updates, and more to do this.  It needs to be a mix of ALL of The Above, not just  FB, email , or something free.  Take the time to drop a card in the mail a few times a year.  You can do this very inexpensive, and it will get opened, and the results are fabulous.  I have many articles on using greeting cards to build your relationship marketing strategy and new business referrals.  Read them.  Implement them!


Why You Need Your Own Domain Name

One of the biggest mistakes business owners make when starting Lead Generation Tipsor expanding their business online, is to not get a custom domain name for their business.  Often I see business cards, print ads, even television commercials that have s domain name in the following format “please visit my site at”. Another common format, 

Folks, these are just not professional, period!  This does not mean you have to go out and develop a new, unique website before you can start your business.  Especially if your business opportunity company or up-line gives you a replicated site.  It does mean that you need to go an buy a domain name for $10 a year, and redirect it to your replicated site name.

This is not a difficult process, wherever you register your domain name, they will usually tell you how to do this, and often even prompt you to redirect it when you register.  In this case, you simply paste in your replicated URL, and then after it propagates or resolves (usually 30 min to a couple hours), when someone types in your  custom domain name, they will see the completed redirect site.  This is not the perfect situation, as you do not have full control over a redirect site.  However it is a much better situation than sending them to a hard to enter or remember domain name, and it is fine for you to get started in your business without having to spend hundreds on a new website and content.

Also think about the perception.  If you are presenting yourself as an expert in your opportunity, product, and service, or as a professional business owner, what do you think your prospects are going to think if you can’t afford to or take the time to have a custom domain?  They won’t think you are very serious about your business, and unless they are friends or family just being nice, they will not likely do business with you.

So take that quick, extra step and $10 and make your business look top notch!

STUPID ME..I KNOW BETTER , but glanced at the mlm911 address I used for accounts online. I clicked on the view my account and as soon as I clicked, I closed the browser realizing that was stupid to click. IMMEDIATELY my Skype online closed, so I realized that something was NOT right, so I went to and looked for a # to call them. I could not find one so I called Ben. In talking to him I realized not only was my friends list at danger but also my CREDIT Card.

I had put in a credit card to buy minutes to call when I was in Europe and evidently Skype kept it online. I logged on to my credit card account and saw a long list of about 25 charges ALL Today from $10-$25 each ready to drop from Skype. I called my credit card company and shut down the account immediately.

Now I have to wait to get a new credit card.

I KNOW not to click links yet it happened so fast as I glanced at the email, I did it without thinking. DUH.

I also got a 2nd email from SKYPE saying I ordered something DUH obviously these jerks are busy at work. ( I HAVE FILED A REPORT WITH SKYPE)

I also learned a new Facebook trick they are doing from my credit card security company. Hackers are sending messages to people saying HI beautiful, or hi cutie, or hi there, and a message saying they want to connect and get to know you.

When you connect with these people, they now have access to your friends as well. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THEM DO NOT ACCEPT ANY FRIEND REQUEST and check your facebook privacy settings

It’s always wise to be careful. I’m one of the most cautious ever and yet I did a stupid thing today. Be advised to pay close attention. Make sure you set up your security on your FB account so only friends and family can see you.

Five Cheap Or Free Ways to Get Traffic and Leads Online

1. Publish An E-zine or Newsletter

Write informative and helpful articles about your business opportunity or products.   Articles about online businesses and MLM can have a lot of competition so find unique angles to talk about your products and how they are useful for different things.  It is ok to get very specific, and this will even help in search rankings as well as informing customers.  There are many places to submit articles, is one, but simply Google “article submission sites” for the latest sites accepting submissions.

3. Use Craigslist and other Directory Sites

Craiglist and other classified sites are  a great place to advertise both products and  your business opportunity.  Just read their guidelines and follow them.  You do have to be consistent in posting on these sites and send to your website to capture their information and offer them more information.

 4. Pinterest

Pinterest is great for generating interest for products.  No matter what you sell Pinterest Leadsin your business, you can take creative pictures of the products in different instances and pin them to Pinterest. Keyword the pictures properly and you will start getting followers and traffic to your website. You also integrate this with Facebook for double the power.

5. Facebook

Used correctly facebook pages can generate a lot of followers and interaction  with potential customers.  It is important that you give good information in your posts and to just try to sell people all the time in order for FB to work.

There are many more ways to generate online leads and sales for your business opportunity and products. This is just a few.  Remember it is better to pick just a couple of the available options and focus on them.  Do not try to do everything at once or you will be overwhelmed and see little results.  Keep track of your efforts and give each method you choose a fair 30-60 day shot.  If you do not see results, go look at others in your industry who are having success in the methods you chose, and try to tweak your efforts to be similar.


How to Use Facebook To Build Customer Relationships

No matter what people say about facebook slowing down, the fact is that there are still millions and millions of active users.  Practically everyone has a Facebook account.  If you are in business, and yo do not have a Facebook “page” for your business, you are missing out on a vital opportunity to reach your customers, current and future, on their terms.  Remember, most people Facebook for Customerswho spend money are now using mobile devices, and most use Facebook on their mobiles as well, so you can reach them almost instantly if you do it right.

First, be sure you have a Facebook page for your business, not a separate personal account that simply uses your business name.  Two reasons for this; one if you use a personal account for business, you are violating Facebook terms and they can shut your account down after you spend a lot of time building it up, and two, there are things about a Facebook page such as naming it to help with SEO, and different lead capture apps that you can use that are not available on a personal account.

Second, you need to make sure you have a landing page on your FB page so that you can offer some type of hook to get people to like your page.  This is the same idea as report give-aways and such on web capture pages.

Third, have a good cover image that shows your logo, branding, and USP (unique selling point).   This is important to show professionalism, and you can switch it out at holidays to keep things fun and updated.

Fourth, make sure you offer good information on your page and do not over do it.  Some companies have reason to post several times a day, others only a couple times a week.  Look for local events to post sometimes so your customers stay interested and looks at you as a good source of helpful information, not just a business trying to sell them.

Finally, make sure you give more information than you do “offers”.  Obviously you want to build your business, but people are going to remove your page from their feed or ignore you if all you ever do is try to get them to come to your business, click to order, etc.  Be sure to offer at least 4-5 pieces of usable, good information to them for every offer or business related post.  If possible try to make it a 10:1 ratio.

Hopefully these tips will help you build better relationships with past and future customers on Facebook.  There are a lot of people out there who can also help you set up and maintain your Facebook pages for business, if you need help and do not want to do it yourself.  The key is, get it done one way or another!




Do you ever receive strange emails? Not a week goes by that I don’t get at least 2 or 3 dozen emails, from companies claiming my package shipped, my bank account is over drawn, Or I just need to click to see my invoice.

The look very real. I have to stop and look at it and let the email process thru my brain. At first it looks so official, that you don’t tend to think about how you don’t even have a bank account at that bank, or you didn’t order anything.

When in doubt, HIT DELETE. Never click a link from a stranger even if the email sounds good. If it’s real, they will contact you some other way.

Never chick the link and NEVER log in to your account or put in your information when you get a link like that. Better to be safe than sorry.


The Holiday Season

It’s officially the holiday season. I know it seems to come earlier each year. I actually saw Christmas items on sale in September this year, but I ignore them.
