Get Moving More

If you’re like me, you’re not exactly a health junky. In fact, many times I say I’m allergic to exercise. It’s much easier to lay on the beach, or sit around than to get all hot and sweaty
in some gym.

I finally found something that will keep me motivated to move and actually see results.
I promised in my last article to let the world know about this little item that will show you how to get moving more. It’s called a fitbit. It helps you to get moving more.

IF you’re like me, you’ve probably never heard of a fitbit. One of my team mates posted on facebook about many steps she’d taken according to her fitbit. I asked her what a fit bit was and she told me. It’s a great way to see if you’re as active as you think you might be.

I went there and watched all the information and decided it was just what I needed. I saw they offered free shipping but I didn’t want to wait, so I went down to the local Best Buys and picked one up the next day.

I had this thing only 2 weeks and could tell a big difference. I lost it and immediately went and bought a 2nd one. I found out that Best Buys were no longer carrying them. I did find them at the Apple store. Later I found Brookstones, Target and Staples carry them.

You can add in your friends, and it will track what you’re doing to what they are doing, which motivates you as well. if you know like me that we all need to be more active but you hate exercise, I highly recommend you get a fitbit. If you do, and want me to add you to my friends list so we can encourage each other just let me know. Lets get moving more and encourage each other.

The Secret To Losing Weight

How many people want to know the secret to losing weight? There really is no secret, it’s quite simple. Eat healthy foods, and move more. If it’s that simple, why do we have such an overweight society? Weight loss is not always easy.

I’ve found in my life that things that are simple to do are sometimes easier NOT to do. It’s all about choices. Sometimes it’s so much more tempting to have that big bowl of ice cream and greasy hamburgers for lunch or dinner, than a nice salad and a piece of fruit.

It’s also much easier to plop down in front of your computer or tv, than it is to go out for a walk or get your body to the gym. People say they want to lose weight, yet sometimes, I think they may want to, but are not willing to put forth the effort to make lost those excess pounds.

People buy into all these easy deals pitched online, Pills, Shakes or whatever. They get on them for a short time and lose weight but they never stay with them for the long haul. Once they quit taking those things, the weight comes back on and then some.

If you are one that does want to lose weight, and keep it off, believe me when you already know the secret to losing weight. In my next post, I’m going to share a cool little gadget that will help you be honest with yourself….. and show you exactly what you’re doing, each day.

You can lose that weight if you truly want to.

When to Send Cards to Your Customers

Greeting cards are a great way to stay in touch with your customer base.  They make your customers feel appreciated and let them know that you value their business.  In addition, greeting cards and small gifts can also be used to not only show customer appreciation but to also ask for referrals.  So when are the best times to send greeting cards?

  • Birthday – this is obvious, get your customer’s birthday, and add it to your database so that you send them a card on their birthday.

  • Major Holidays – Because it is recommended to “touch” base with your customers at least 7-10 times a year,  Major holidays give you the perfect chance to touch base.  In most cases Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and the 4th of July (if you live in the United States), are four holidays to remember.  If you do not know a customer’s religious background, a neutral card is best for Christmas and Easter.  However, if you know their background send them an applicable card.  For example. If you know they are Jewish, send them a Chanukah card.

  • Minor Holidays – Minor holidays give you the chance to get creative with promotions and greeting cards or post cards.  You can do neat little promotions in the cards, or straight forward cards with no offer or promotion.

  • Special Occassions – If you get wind of something affecting your customers life such as a new baby,  anniversary, death in the family, new home, etc, send them an appropriate card.  Be sure not to try and sell anything in this card though, it is simply to let them know you are thinking of them and sharing in their joy or sorrow.

There are ways to make sending greeting cards very easy even if you have thousands of customers.  You can set your database online, very secure in just a few minutes, and then you can do group mailings, personalized of course, or you can login and send special occasion cards whenever you need too.  You can even send gift cards and gifts as well.  To see how easy it is to start a greeting card sending retention plan, check out

How to Use Facebook To Build Customer Relationships

No matter what people say about facebook slowing down, the fact is that there are still millions and millions of active users.  Practically everyone has a Facebook account.  If you are in business, and yo do not have a Facebook “page” for your business, you are missing out on a vital opportunity to reach your customers, current and future, on their terms.  Remember, most people Facebook for Customerswho spend money are now using mobile devices, and most use Facebook on their mobiles as well, so you can reach them almost instantly if you do it right.

First, be sure you have a Facebook page for your business, not a separate personal account that simply uses your business name.  Two reasons for this; one if you use a personal account for business, you are violating Facebook terms and they can shut your account down after you spend a lot of time building it up, and two, there are things about a Facebook page such as naming it to help with SEO, and different lead capture apps that you can use that are not available on a personal account.

Second, you need to make sure you have a landing page on your FB page so that you can offer some type of hook to get people to like your page.  This is the same idea as report give-aways and such on web capture pages.

Third, have a good cover image that shows your logo, branding, and USP (unique selling point).   This is important to show professionalism, and you can switch it out at holidays to keep things fun and updated.

Fourth, make sure you offer good information on your page and do not over do it.  Some companies have reason to post several times a day, others only a couple times a week.  Look for local events to post sometimes so your customers stay interested and looks at you as a good source of helpful information, not just a business trying to sell them.

Finally, make sure you give more information than you do “offers”.  Obviously you want to build your business, but people are going to remove your page from their feed or ignore you if all you ever do is try to get them to come to your business, click to order, etc.  Be sure to offer at least 4-5 pieces of usable, good information to them for every offer or business related post.  If possible try to make it a 10:1 ratio.

Hopefully these tips will help you build better relationships with past and future customers on Facebook.  There are a lot of people out there who can also help you set up and maintain your Facebook pages for business, if you need help and do not want to do it yourself.  The key is, get it done one way or another!

24 Hours

We all have the exact same 24 hours in a day. It’s how we choose to spend our time that will make a difference in our future. If you plan to build a business to secure your future, that means you must find time to work and build that business in your spare time.

Most people go to a job of some sorts, either full or part time. Most have families. Many belong to clubs and other activities that keep them busy. Life is usually busy for everyone.

I’ve found you can make extra money or excuses, but never both. If you truly want to secure your future, then you have to find time to work your business in your 24 hours. If you don’t work your business daily, you can’t expect to succeed. It takes consistent work and action over time to be successful.

If you want true freedom, you have to create a plan and work that plan, and stick with it over the next months and years. Find the time now so you can celebrate later. You’ll be glad you did down the road.

Our Flight Home

It was finally time for our flight home from Europe. We were amazed at how fast the time had gone, as we said goodbye to all the new friends we met.

We had a flight for one hour flight from Basel back to Amsterdam. The plane was called a city hopper. We were amazed that they came to serve a box lunch. Don ate his but I declined as we had just eaten breakfast on our river boat not long before.

Upon deplaning in Amsterdam, we had a LONG LONG LONG walk from one gate to the next and had to show passports and go thru 2 customers to get to the 2nd gage. We had only an hour and a half between planes, so by the time we walked the lengthy arrival halls to our new gate and got thru customs, they boarded us within 5 minutes.

Even though this was an 8 1/2 hour flight, I was not sleepy as we had just gotten up. I ended up watching about 4 movies. We were also served lunch, and then a 2nd meal which I opted out of as I was already stuffed and airport food it not all that good.

Because we fly Delta, we had to fly to Minneapolis to change planes. We arrived in Minneapolis about 5 PM, which was about about midnight in the time zone we’d left, so we were getting tired by this time. We had to go thru international check in, see the customs guy, and reclaim our bags and check them back in and then go to our gate. That took us about 30-45 minutes.

We were fortunate that the international flight all came into terminal G, as we knew our Tampa flight would be at the far end of G as usual, so we didn’t have to change wings. That was one blessing.

By the time we reached the end corridor, we found a real zoo. It seemed there were several late flights before us so there were 2 or 3 sets of people for each plane coming and going. Our flight was due to leave at 7:15 so we went in the restaurant to get away from the zoo and had a coke. By this time we were really getting tired.

They changed our Gate out as we figured they would with the zoo but we were lucky it was only one away. About an hour later we boarded to a totally full flight. I figured I would take a nap on this flight, but it was undoubtably the noisiest flight I’ve ever taken. First class had 3 or 4 young couples, that were noisy and talkative. The flight attendant kept going to the over head bins, and opening them all and closing them several times. We couldn’t figure out why.

Then they had problems with the drink carts for the back, and finally got them out when the flight attendant came to offer dinner. Needless to say I didn’t get to take a nap. Planes between MSP and TPA are always the old planes from KLM and they really stink. They don’t have TV, or anything to listen to on them. I didn’t feel like doing anything but taking a nap, but couldn’t so by the time we jumped ahead and hour and got into Tampa it was close to midnight. We finally arrived home about 1 AM.

All and all it was a great trip and we plan to do another river cruise. it’s a great way to meet new people and see new places and have someone there to show you around.

The Netherlands

Amsterdam is the capital city of the country of The Netherlands, as well as it’s largest city. It’s name is derived from “Amstiredamme”, meaning a dam built in the river Arristel. The entire city is below sea level, and sits atop wooden stakes. There are more than 150 canals and 1,200 bridges, and it’s sometimes known as the “Venice of the North”.

It was amazing to see all the water and dykes. It’s hard to see how they survive being below sea level but they seem to have that all under control.

The total kingdom of The Netherlands is about 14,413 square miles. The entire country is roughly the size of Massachusetts and Connecticut combined.

Some people call the country The Netherlands, others call it the Kingdom Of The Netherlands and others simply Holland. It’s quite a charming little country. There are thousands of bikes as most people travel by bike. There is very little parking to parking cars is quite expensive. Bikes have the right away over cars and walkers. When you hear the little bell it’s time to get out of the way.

The government is a constitutional monarchy. The monarchy is head of state, but the Prime Minister is the head of the government. The population is about 16.6 million, consisting of Dutch, Indonesian, Surinamese, Turkish and Moroccan.

The countries religion is primarily Roman Catholic, Protestant or Muslim.

The education is free, and compulsory for ages 4 – 16. After 16 a student must attend some form of education for at least 2 days a week. Colleges are also free. We in the USA need to ask how they can educate people for free when Our college students graduate with hundreds of thousands of dollars in dept.

Everyone we met in the Netherlands spoke English. We were amazed to see most people in the Europe do speak English.

If you’ve never been there it’s a very interesting country to visit.
